Kruger to Cape Tour (MKT01)



Day 1
Your South African adventure starts here! Upon your arrival at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, your qualified South African tourist guide will meet you and escort you through the terminal building to your vehicle. A short drive from the airport will take you to the Malikana guesthouse – the ideal place to stay on your first night.

Day 2
Feeling refreshed after a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast, you leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind as you travel to the quant little town of Dullstroom in the Mpumalanga province. As part of an introduction and orientation, your guide will give you an overview of what to expect during your holiday. Dullstroom is well-known for its cold mountain streams and trout and is a popular place to enjoy some relaxing flyfishing. You can try your hand at this sport after a demonstration by a knowledgeable guide. The rest of the afternoon will provide you with the perfect opportunity to explore this beautiful town on your own.

Day 3
Another exciting day lies ahead as you depart Dullstroom and travel along the Panorama route to Hazyview. Today you can visit sights such as the Blyde River Canyon and Three Rondavels, God’s Window and the Burke’s luck potholes. From here the road winds down from the escarpment and through numerous plantations until you enter the “Lowveld”. This evening your guide will show you how to benefit most from using your binoculars – this will be especially helpful when you travel through the Kruger Park!

Day 4

After breakfast a short drive takes you to the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Upon entering this wild life sanctuary, you are amazed at the natural beauty, peace and serenity that surrounds you. As you drive along through the park, you may see a wide variety of different animal, bird and reptile species. In the afternoon, a nature walk in the park accompanied by armed rangers, promises to be an unforgettable and exhilarating experience. The duration of the walk is approximately 2 hours.

Day 5
The sound of birds chirping early in the morning tells you that yet another amazing day lies ahead. Today you will have another opportunity to spot some of Africa’s wildlife as you depart for a morning game drive in an open safari vehicle. In the afternoon you can relax around the pool or enjoy the quiet atmosphere in the camp while sipping an ice cold beer or glass of wine. As the sun sets you can enjoy a typical South African “braai” and share your experiences of the day with each other around the camp fire.

Day 6
After breakfast this morning you travel south and exit the park before you travel a short distance to Marloth Park on the banks of the Crocodile river. Your lodge overlooks the Kruger Park and while the sun sets, you might be lucky to see some animals coming down to the river to quench their thirst. Relax at the pool of the lodge and absorb the tranquil surroundings of the African bush before enjoying a mouthwatering dinner in the evening.

Day 7
On your journey back to Johannesburg this morning you travel through numerous sugar cane fields and citrus plantations that this region is known for. At O.R. Tambo International airport you check-in for a domestic flight to the Southern Cape. After a 2hour flight you arrive in George from where you travel to Knysna, a beautiful town along the Garden route of South Africa. Enjoy dinner at your hotel.

Day 8
After breakfast this morning you can explore the Garden route while you travel to Tsitsikamma and the Garden Route National Park. Along the way you will be amazed by stunning views of the Indian Ocean and the lush vegetation of this region. When you arrive at the Storms river camp in Tsitsikamma, you have the option of Kayaking up Storms river mouth, or just taking a walk to the suspension bridge. While walking through the forest, you might see the colourful Knysna Turaco and a tiny antelope, the Blue Duiker. Savour the smell of Cape fynbos and listen to waves crashing on the rocks before heading back to Knysna. In the late afternoon you can explore the waterfront and enjoy dinner while overlooking the lagoon.

Day 9
South Africa offers its visitors a wide variety of diverse sceneries, and today will be no exception.
From Knysna, through Wilderness and Sedgefield and back to George, the views are breathtaking.
Once you have reached the other side of the Outeniqua Pass, the vast open space of the little Karoo lies in front of you with the “Swartberg” mountain range in the distance. This is Ostrich country! Apart from ostrich farms, the town of Oudtshoorn is also well-known for the Cango Caves. At the lodge you will have the option to experience an evening game drive, or if you prefer, you could simply relax on your own private wooden deck overlooking a dam while animals such as elephants come to quench their thirst.

Day 10
A full day filled with exciting activities lies ahead. At sunrise you meet your local guide for the Meerkat Walk at Buffelsdrift before enjoying your breakfast. A visit to the Cango caves and learning more about the ostrich farming industry in South Africa will surely be a memorable experience. When you arrive back at the lodge in the late afternoon, you can reflect on the day and all the amazing sights and experiences.

Day 11
Time to leave the little Karoo and travel along Route 62 to Hermanus. Along the way, you can stop at the quaint town of Barrydale and spend some time in the historic town of Swellendam. As you travel further, you will see an abundance of wheat crops and canola fields surrounded by majestic mountains. South Africa’s national bird, the Blue Crane, can be found in flocks in this region, so keep an eye out for this graceful bird. Hermanus is famous for the Southern Right Whales that come to the warmer waters along this coastline to give birth here from June to November each year. Take a walk along the walkway from the old harbour and you might be rewarded with a sighting of one of these amazing mammals.

Day 12
After breakfast this morning, you take a lovely scenic drive from Hermanus and through Kleinmond onto Clarence Drive which offers some of the best ocean views in South Africa. Then you enter the winelands of the Stellenbosch region. This tour offers you a unique experience as you will be staying on a working wine estate at the foot of the Simonsberg mountain. During your stay here, you can learn more about the history of wine making in South Africa on a tour of the vineyard and cellar, and enjoy wine tasting while sampling some locally produced cheese. At dinner you can enjoy these superb wines that will complement your meal and put a perfect end to another fantastic day.

Day 13
This morning you travel to the Mother City, Cape Town. As you depart from Stellenbosch, the majestic Table Mountain comes into view and you become aware of the cosmopolitan vibe that is so typical of this world-renowned city. If weather permits, a visit to the top op Table Mountain is an unforgettable experience. You can travel to the top via the cable way or for the more adventurous, a walk up Table mountain will get your adrenaline pumping and you can marvel at the glorious views over Table Bay, Lion’s Head and the Atlantic ocean. During a relaxing walk through the Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens, you might see the beautiful King Protea, the national flower of South Africa, up close. You could also discuss options with your guide of the different ways you can explore the route between Table mountain and Kirstenbosch on foot. Cape Town has some of the best restaurants in the world, and you will be spoilt for choice when choosing where to enjoy your dinner.

Day 14
Today you depart from your hotel for a tour of the Cape Peninsula. From Houtbay harbour you depart on a boat cruise to seal island. At the harbour you can shop around for curios before travelling further to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point. Here at the most South Western point of the African continent, you will have some spectacular views and photo opportunities. You can also take a walk up to the lighthouse and enjoy a cold drink at the Two Oceans restaurant. While driving through the reserve, you may also encounter some antelope such as Eland and Bontebok as well as Baboons and Ostriches. Once you drive around the peninsula into False bay, you can enjoy lunch overlooking the ocean before stopping in Simonstown to visit the African Penguin colony at Boulders beach. Simonstown is a quant town with beautiful Victorian architecture. Back in Cape Town, you can try yet another fantastic restaurant to enjoy your dinner.

Day 15
This morning you can enjoy breakfast at your leisure and reflect on all the experiences you’ve had during your holiday. The rest of the day you can spend exploring the city of Cape Town and its rich history. Perhaps you might want to do some last minute shopping at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront or just relax around the pool or on one of the white sandy beaches. Your choices are endless.

Day 16
An incredible holiday has come to an end, but you will have wonderful memories to treasure. Depart from your hotel to the airport for your flight back home.
